Tips for Creating Spring Themed School Displays

There are many great ideas for creating colorful spring bulletin boards.

Springtime brings many holidays and events that provide wonderful opportunities for teachers who want to create colorful and fun classroom bulletin boards.

Make a Multicultural Spring Bulletin Board

For teachers who want to decorate for a specific religious spring holiday, but are concerned about upsetting students or parents with other beliefs, a display that shows a variety of spring holidays can be a great choice. A few ideas for spring bulletin board themes with a multicultural flair are:

  • Where in the World Are Spring Celebrations? - Find a colorful picture that represents each of the many spring celebrations, from Saint Patrick's Day to the Buddhist Songkran festival and put a few facts about the event on the back of each picture. Place them in a pocket on the bulletin board. Center a big map of the world below your title. As each of the holidays approaches, have a student pull that holiday from the pocket and read the facts to the class. The student should then place the picture over the location on the map where the event first was celebrated.
  • What We Celebrate During Spring - Encourage each child to bring in a photo of his or her family celebrating a spring holiday from the year before. Create a display that has a subtitle for each holiday represented and put photos below it. To make this display successful, remind students of all the different holidays during the season. This helps the display become more diverse, since many students automatically think of Easter or Passover, but they may have photos of Groundhog Day, St. Patrick's Day and other events.

Make a Spring Themed Bulletin Board

Flowers, bees, birds and weather are all great spring topics. Try one of these spring themes for an eye catching bulletin board.

  • Grow into Learning - Make flower shapes from felt or construction paper that have space in the center for a child's face. Daisies work very well for this. Take a digital photo of each child in the class and print the photos. Use a circle cutter or trace around a small plate to make each photo into a circle that fits in the center of a flower. Glue the children's photos on the flowers. Cut green felt or construction paper so that it looks like grass and place it at the bottom of the bulletin board. Cut stems for each flower and have them "grow" up out of the grass. Adhere a flower to each stem. Don't forget a few fun additions, like a robin, clouds and a sun. Place the title near the top of the bulletin board.
  • We Are Bzzzy Learning New Things - Cover the board with a blue background. Use tan felt or poster board to cut out a beehive shape and place it in the middle of the board. Cut bee body shapes from construction paper or felt and add black accents. Glue a photo of each child's face on the bees' bodies and add antennas. If the class is small enough to fit on one side of the beehive, place a few sheets of construction paper on the other side as a backdrop for examples of work the students have done.

Additional Spring Theme Ideas for Teachers

There are so many other fun ideas for spring bulletin boards, from handprint bulletin board flowers to a science themed bulletin board about spring wildlife. Why not use one of these ideas to plan a spring fling for the classroom that involves an entire week of spring related learning?
