These iPhone apps provide extra help for young students learning math, from basic addition to algebra.

Many students struggle with math problems, whether it's multiplication tables or fractions. For iPhone and iPod Touch owners, there are a wide variety of apps that offer fun games, tutorials, and quizzes to test knowledge.

Here are a few iPhone apps that will help students struggling with math.

Elementary Math Help: KidCalc Math Flash Cards

The KidCalc app is actually four apps rolled together, and features cool graphics and fun games that make learning fun. The app is aimed at preschool and early elementary school students. Features include:

  • Animated flash cards
  • Addition and subtraction math drills
  • Counting game
  • Animated calculator

The app also utilizes audio, with recordings of children reading the math problems aloud. At just $1.99, KidCalc is a great deal for comprehensive help with beginner math.

Kids Math: Learn Multiplication and Division

This Kids Math apps, created by BrainCounts, use music, sound effects, and cute animations to give children a visual representation of math problems. The grade school addition focuses on addition and subtraction, while the advanced app focuses on multiplication and division.

The full apps are available for $1.99, but free samples are also on iTunes.

Fun Math Games: Falling Algebra

Falling Algebra, created by Clay Cat Designs, helps students learn to add and subtract algebraic equations with a fun game. The student can adjust the numbers he wants to focus on and make the problems increasingly difficult. The fun is that the answer falls down the screen with dozens of other numbers, and the student has to "catch" the correct answer.

Falling Algebra is available on iTunes for only $0.99.

Practice Word Problems: MathPad 4

Also created by Clay Cat Designs, MathPad 4 is designed to help students with word problems that use addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. The app features over seventy word problems and can be customized.

Answers are inputed with a keypad, not by choosing from multiple answers, so there's no guessing allowed! MathPad 4 is available on iTunes for $0.99.

Learn Fractions, Percentages, and Decimals: Kids Fraction Fun

Created by NSC Partners LLC, the Kids Fraction Fun app is designed to help children between fourth and sixth grade with activities focused on fractions, percentages, and decimals.

The practice problems are accompanied by cool graphics, and kids can keep track of their progress on the score board. Problems can be done with a timer or at the student's leisure.

According to NSC Partners, math teachers are even using this app in the classroom! The developers take comments and criticism seriously, and have added even more cool features based on feedback. Kids Fraction Fun is available on iTunes for $1.99.
