Placing a Scholastic Book OrderHow to Compile and Submit Class Orders for Books and Bonuses
For teachers or parents placing a Scholastic book order for the first time, here are the basics of compiling and submitting the class order.
This article is focused on compiling and placing an order with Scholastic Book Clubs once the orders have already been received from the class. For information on how to get started running a book order and sending it home, see the article "Preparing a Scholastic Book Order – How to Coordinate Class Orders" Compiling the Book OrderBook orders can be compiled online or on paper. Online ordering requires entering the catalog numbers of the order booklets, but has a limit to the number of catalogs in a single order. Paper ordering is actually quite simple and straightforward, taking between 5-10 minutes for each catalog with orders. Visit the online ordering website for instructions. Work with the teacher to create or access the site using the class login. The Scholastic master order form for each catalog (which was set aside when the catalogs were broken up in to individual forms) has a place to tally the individual selections on each parent order form. When all the forms for a particular catalog are compiled, calculate the totals for quantity of books and total money. Fill in all boxes down to the end of the form. Add any purchases the teacher may want to make using points from past orders. When the paid total is completely calculated, fill in the bonus point calculation on the right side of the master order sheet. If there are any bonuses based upon order amount or minimum order threshold, include those bonuses and calculate the total points for the order. Include any coupons that may have been included in the order booklet, and for which the teacher has made selections (it is not uncommon for Scholastic to offer, for example, $10 of free books from the catalog at time of order if the total paid orders exceed $25 or some other threshold). Check the back of the order sheet to see if the teacher's name and customer number are already listed. If not, be sure to also fill in the teacher information at the top right of the master order form. When the order form is fully complete, set it aside and repeat the above process for each catalog that generated orders from parents. Calculate and Confirm Payment TotalsWhen all orders forms are filled out, be sure to check the total amount due on the combined order forms against the total monies paid on all parent checks. Be sure that all checks are filled out properly and signed, and written to Scholastic Book Clubs. If there is any discrepancy, be sure to confirm order totals for each form and item, and totals due from each family. If possible, copy all checks before sending to keep until the order is completed successfully. Send in the OrderAll orders can be placed in one payment envelope (set aside from the catalogs when they were separated into order sheets), along with the checks, provided they can all be made to fit. Do not send in the individual order forms returned by parents – only the master order form from each parent is sent to Scholastic. Keep the individual parent forms in a safe place, along with the check copies. The individual forms will be needed to sort out each family's purchase when the books arrive from scholastic. Books generally arrive within two weeks from Scholastic's receipt of the order, but often faster. Check and Sort the OrderWhen books arrive, take the individual order forms and sort each family's order to go home. It's helpful to bring brown grocery bags or other carry bags to either send home with children or place in the classroom for parent pickup. Either way, letting parents know by email, when possible, that books have arrived is probably a good idea so they can watch for their pickup in the classroom or ask their child for the order. If any books are missing, don't panic – Scholastic is very good about supplying any missing books. Scholastic's contact information can be found at the customer service page of their website. Placing a Scholastic Book order is a very systematic process, and after the first time is quite easy. Book orders are a great win-win way to provide children with inexpensive high-quality books in the home and earn free books for classroom as well.
