Parents and teachers can use pumpkin snack recipes to make fun kids' treats for fall or Halloween themed elementary school celebration.

Pumpkin lessons and activities are popular in elementary classrooms during the fall. Teachers and parents can plan a classroom party with a pumpkin theme to celebrate the students’ hard work or as part of a Halloween celebration. Pumpkin shaped snacks are a fun treat at a kids’ pumpkin party.

How to Make Pumpkin Face English Muffins

The teacher or parent passes out one half of an English muffin to each kid in the class. The kids use a small plastic knife to cover each English muffin with an orange cheese spread. The kids decorate the pumpkin faces with cut up vegetables such as olives, carrot coins, and tomato slices.

Pumpkin Shaped Jello® Jiggler Recipe

Orange pumpkin shaped Jello® jigglers are a fun treat for elementary kids. To make the snacks an adult mixes three packages of orange gelatin mix with four envelopes of unflavored gelatin.

Four cups of boiling water are stirred into the gelatin mix until all the gelatin has completely dissolved. The orange mixture in poured into a 13’’ by 9’’ pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray. The pan is placed into the refrigerator to chill for 1 hour or until the Jello® is firm.

Once the orange Jello® has set the teacher or parent has the children take turns using a small pumpkin shaped cookie cutter to cut Jello® pumpkin jigglers out of the gelatin. The kids can then use their fingers to eat their pumpkin snacks

How to Make Toasted Pumpkin Seeds

Kids love to stick their hands into the fleshy insides of a pumpkin. The pumpkin seeds that get pulled out can be turned into a healthy pumpkin snack.

The seeds are scooped out of the pumpkin they are cleaned and rinsed. The kids can then lay them out on paper towels to dry. While they are drying they can be sprinkled with salt or sugar.

The pumpkin seeds are placed on a cookie sheet and baked in a 300° oven. An adult stirs the pumpkin seeds while they are baking so they cook evenly. The pumpkin seeds can be removed and cooled when they start to brown.

Pumpkin Shaped Rice Krispies® Treat Recipe

To make pumpkin Rice Krispies® treats the parent or teacher melts three tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over low heat. Once the butter is melted a 10 ounce bag of marshmallows is added to the pot along with orange food coloring.

The marshmallow mixture is removed from the heat and six cups of Rice Krispies® are added to the pot. The cereal is stirred until it is evenly coated.

Kids can then use an ice cream scooper to scoop out a round ball of Rice Krispies®. A green gumdrop or spearmint leaf is added to the top of each pumpkin ball and the pumpkin shaped Rice Krispies® treats are served at the pumpkin party.

In schools where Halloween is not celebrated parents and teachers can plan a pumpkin themed celebration as the culminating activity for a pumpkin unit. After students complete pumpkin lessons they can have a pumpkin party to celebrate their hard work.

For pumpkin themed lesson ideas teachers can read the Pumpkin Themed Science Lesson Plan, the Elementary Repeated Reading Lesson Plan, and the Pumpkin Pie Math and Science Cooking Lesson Plan.
