Easy, inexpensive, and thoughtful teacher gifts perfect for Christmas, Teacher Appreciation Day, or the last day of school. Includes four gifts kids can make at home.

Looking for the perfect gift for your child’s teacher? Finding a great present doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. Use the list below to choose a practical and meaningful gift any primary school teacher would be happy to receive.

Hand Picked Flowers

You don’t need to spend a lot of money or even go to the store to show how much you appreciate your favorite teacher. If the timing is right send your child outside to pick a special bouquet. Wrap the stems in wet paper towels and tin foil and tie a colorful bow around it. If there are no flowers growing outside make your own using tissue paper and pipe cleaners.

Thank You Letter

No present says thank you better than a handwritten letter. Depending on the age and ability level of the child the letter can be dictated and then personalized with a small picture and signature. Have the child place the letter in a decorated envelope and seal it with a special sticker.

Artwork

Have your child capture everything he loves about his teacher in a one-of-a-kind portrait or drawing of his favorite thing about his teacher. Make sure the picture is signed and dated, then roll it up and tie it with a ribbon or place it in a wrapped paper towel roll.

Homemade Book

Talk to your child about what she likes best about school and her teacher. Together generate a list of “Five Things I Love about School” and use it for the basis of a picture book. Assist your child in creating a cover for the book and a picture and sentence for each page. Bind the pages by punching holes in the side and tying string through it.

Photo Mug or Class Magnet

Get together with other parents and organize a group present for the teacher. Take a class photo and put it on a mug or make it into a magnet. Go online or to a photo center and create a unique teacher gift that also serves as a keepsake of the school year.

Gift Card to Teacher Store

An easy, but thoughtful present is a gift card to the local teacher’s store. Teachers often use their own money for class supplies and will really appreciate a chance to get something new for the classroom for “free.”

New Book for Class Library

No classroom ever has too many books. Have your child pick a new book for the classroom at the local bookstore. Before wrapping the present invite the child to write a short message on the inside cover to his teacher along with his name and the date.
